I have been your pastor for only three weeks now. In that time, I have been amazed to learn how the members of our parish family work together to keep our two parishes operating well. I am heartened to see how you live Christ’s Gospel in your families and in the surrounding community.
As you know, our Church is larger than our two parish communities. We belong to the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, which includes central and southern Indiana. Under Archbishop Thompson, archdiocesan staff and agencies support our two parishes in a wide variety of ways.
You already support the mission and ministry of our local parish family – thank you. Today, I want to describe how we can also support the ministry of the Archdiocese, which likewise supports our parish communities. If you consult the Archdiocese’s website (www.archindy.org), you will see two long lists of charities and offices that serve our parishes – and serve our brothers and sisters across central and southern Indiana.
Each year, the United Catholic Appeal (UCA) for the Archdiocese raises funds that help us share our faith and build stronger communities. Our Archdiocese has 126 parishes, 69 schools, and six Catholic Charities agencies (including Tell City). By cooperating with our Archdiocese, our two Spencer County parishes can witness to our Catholic faith in ways that we could not achieve alone.
To learn more about the United Catholic Appeal (UCA), go to our parish website and search for “UCA 2026.” On our parish page “United Catholic Appeal 2026,” click: “Why It Matters.” There you can find videos that show how the UCA enables our local Church’s mission of Teaching, Shepherding, and Serving. You can also read about the UCA in our parish bulletin.
Intention Weekend: October 18-19
This weekend is United Catholic Appeal Intention Weekend across the archdiocese. Attached to this week's bulletin is an envelope with:
A prayer card where you can add your prayer intentions for Archbishop Thompson
A card to record your gift for this year or set up regular giving (monthly, quarterly or twice a year)
Four Ways to Give
The United Catholic Appeal offers four ways to help:
After consulting other parish pastors, I am choosing to support UCA by making a monthly gift using the safe and secure online giving portal. I will be making a monthly gift of $100:
$50 a month as a parishioner of St. Boniface Parish
$50 a month as a parishioner of St. Meinrad Parish
You might consider making a monthly gift that matches a regular expense:
The cost of a tank of gas
Your last grocery store trip
Your monthly phone or streaming bill
Your most recent utility bill
Your last trip to the hardware store or farm supply
Every gift, large or small, makes a real difference. I hope that you will join me in providing steady support that will keep our Church strong for future generations. As Archbishop Thompson wrote: the United Catholic Appeal “supports the spiritual and pastoral work that shapes our parishes, cares for the poor and vulnerable, educates our young people, and forms tomorrow’s priests.”
Before all Masses on Intention Weekend (October 18-19), we will show a short video of Archbishop Thompson introducing the 2026 United Catholic Appeal. Following the homily, you will have time to prayerfully consider a gift to the appeal. These cards describe the four ways which you might choose to donate.
Use pens in the pew to fill out your card and a missalette if you need a hard surface. You can drop the cards in the offertory collection today – or in the next couple weeks. You can also mail them, as the intention cards explain.
Thank you for your generosity in responding to this appeal. You are supporting the many ways our Archdiocese serves our parish community and those who are in need. I pray that God may grant you joy in life’s blessings, and consolation in all difficulties.
