Attention Release Time Families:
Some parish families choose for students to participate in neighboring parish faith formation classes (student sessions) during release time at their schools. These classes are considered supplemental and do not correspond with the catechetical efforts and curriculum guidelines set forth by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
Students preparing to receive the sacraments (First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, Confirmation) are required to take part in their parish’s Wednesday student sessions and all Family Catechesis sessions listed on the parish calendar. The value and importance that a child receives the sacraments in their home parish alongside their peers and witnessed by their parish family as a whole is an expectation.
Sacramental Preparation Correlation
Takes place during Wednesday student sessions
For each of the Church’s three Lectionary cycles, the Gospel Weeklies offer 32 lessons that help children respond to what Jesus asks of them in the Sunday Gospels and provide broad background for sacramental preparation.
In order for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis to assess their parish based catechetical efforts, a minimum of 30 hours for parish-based catechetical and sacramental preparation and formation is required in one calendar year.
